The
Tommy Johnson Blues Foundation is a non-profit,
tax-exempt
foundation working to preserve the legacy and music of legendary
blues
artist Tommy Johnson. The foundation's work has been
focused on restoring the Warm Springs Cemetery in Crystal Springs,
MS, where Tommy Johnson has lain in an unmarked grave for more
than half a century. |

The church that maintained the cemetery has
gone to disrepair, and
the land around the site
has reverted to private use. The Foundation
has been working to restore the grounds and
re-open public access
to the cemetery. Through these efforts the site was designated a
"historically
significant abandoned cemetery"
by the Mississippi Department
of Archives and History, and in October of 2001 a headstone
was provided
for Tommy Johnson's grave by the Mount Zion Memorial Fund, a non-profit
group that helps to restore the grave sites of Mississippi musicians.
The gravestone is kept at the Crystal Springs Public Library
until
access to the cemetery is re-opened.
